The colour wheel

When deciding to make my music magazine I shall consider the different colours from this colour wheel. The colour wheel sets out the different colours which also are used to show different connotations. The colours on the wheel that are opposite contrast for example blue and orange this shows that these colours wouldn't be effective together and may not look great when contrasting colours are put together. Colours that are next to each on the colour wheel would be colours that would go together effectively and would look good together.
Colours from the colour wheel represent different connotations for example red represents danger or romance. Another example of colour connotations which is green which represent jealousy, yellow represents happiness etc.

My Music magazine idea

Pop princess turned House sensation.

My idea for my music magazine will be a house music magazine that is based on all types of house music, my magazine will be aimed at people from 15 years to early 30's.  The front cover of my magazine will have a house music producer that will be related to the character on the double page spread I am making. The double page spread will be about a character who was a pop princess loved by teen girls aged 10-15 years and has now turned from pop princess to house sensation. The two page spread will include how she made the transition from the pop music to house music, the relationship between the house producer on the front page, how her fans have come to love her new style of music and why she has changed her image.

Two page spread:
Name: Kinsley Bloom
Age: 23
Music Genre: Pop and House music
Kinsley Bloom is the cute pop princess turned House sensation who has grown up and transformed herself into the amazing house artist Kinsley.

Front Page
Name: James Smith
Age: 26
Music Genre: House
James Smith is the talented House music producer who makes his own music and helps produce other peoples music like the turned House/pop artist Kinsley.

My Final Genre idea: house

When thinking of which Genre of music I wanted to do for my magazine, I researched three different types of genres, Pop, R&B and House music. I felt that I was drawn into doing Pop and House music however I was tied between doing Pop and House so to decided that I would combine the two genres in my music magazine. I want to create a magazine that is aimed at the more mature reader. The readers that I am aiming at would be around the age of 15 to late twenties and for boys as well as girls, I chose this age range because I could ask my peers what they thought as they are within that age range.
Within  my magazine I would include interviews with singers/producers, relationships, jobs, types of house artists such as Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Tiesto etc. My influence for my music magazine comes from the magazine Mixmag, when researching magazines that there are not many house magazines by using this magazine I can use it as a starting point to help me come up with ideas for my magazine.

Genre idea 3: House music

HOUSE magazine:

Mast head – The mast head is bold and catches the readers eyes, it is a recognised name so can stand out to the target audience.
Cover image – The cover image is of a DJ called Calvin Harris he makes music of the same genre of this magazine.

The cover line- The cover line anchors  the cover image as the cover lines says ‘Calvin Harris’ this is the person who is on the cover image and the cover lines tell us who he is. By having his name on the magazine makes him the focus of the magazine.

The strapline – The straplines at the very top of the page show what other articles are in the magazine and gives a hint to what you can expect in the magazine.
Tagline – The small tagline underneath the mast head shows what the magazine is about “World’s biggest dance music and clubbing magazine”
Cover lines – These cover lines at the right bottom side  show what else is also in the magazine, these cover lines show questions relating to the genre of music.
The splash – The splash at the bottom of the page helps advertise something, in this case it is the “the best dance music.” The splash is in a  bright pink to catch the readers eye.
The colour of the mast head and cover lines are pink, this shows that the magazine isn’t targeted just for boys it is targeted to girls as well.

Genre idea 2: R&B

R&B magazine:

Cover images – The cover image is mainly shown to show who the article is about (Nicki Minaj) and to attract fans to read the magazine because she is on the Magazine cover.  The cover image covers the mast head which shows that the cover image of the person is more important than the mast head.
Mast head – The mast heads font is large so stands out and catches the eye of the reader however the Cover image is covering part of  the mast head which shows that the person is more important.
Straplines – The straplines at the very top of the page are shown to show an interest into what else is in the magazine and what the articles are based on.
Cover line – "why is DRAKE so angry?" this cover line has another music artist mentioned which would appeal to the target audience which is teens to adults from 14 to mid twenties, the other music artists name is written in bold which shows that he is important and would be a good article to read from this magazine .
Cover line –  "Kanye's Kilt" this cover line appeals to the target audience because it is writing well known music artist and there fashion, this appeals to teen to adults because they can try to copy there style.
Cover lines – The cover lines that says ‘Nicki Minaj’ is a different font to the two lines underneath the first which says ‘Notorious K.I.N.G’ this shows that there is something different about this article that is linked with the artist Nicki Minaj.
The colour of the Mast head and cover lines are the same colour of Nicki Minaj’s hair colour and co-ordinates together.
The magazine appeals to teens to adults who like to listen genre R&B. The music artist Nicki Minaj appeals to girls who are teens to adult and would make them want to read the magazine.

Genre idea 1: POP

POP Magazine -

POP music magazine:

The Masthead - The mast head is put at the corner of the magazine to be able to catch the readers eye, it also is there because it is a well know magazine and readers look for the mast head when looking for the magazines. The masthead is in front of the image to stand out and be recognisable.

Cover image – The subject shown is Cheryl Cole, she is shown so she is able to attract fans to read the magazine and to appeal to the target audience which is girls from the age of 7 - 15 years old.

Puff- The Magazine has used a puff to be able to show what they think about the interview. The interview has put “Her best interview this year” this is trying to make the reader want to read this interview because Cheryl has said it herself.
Skyline- The skyline is there to show who is in the magazine and relates to the cover image because the cover image and skyline are normally about the same person. The skyline has the name of the artist which is Cheryl Cole and the cover image is Cheryl Cole so both the skyline and cover image link together.

Bottom puff (bottom of magazine)- The music posters at the bottom of the magazine show what genre of music the magazine is aiming to show and who the magazine is targeting (girls). The recurring colour theme through this magazine is pink this also gives the reader an indication that the magazine is aimed at girls.

Cover line – The "summer shopping guide" this fashion  part interest readers who are interested in fashion and give another idea into what else is in the magazine. The fashion will also target to the target audience (girls) because they are experimenting with style of clothes.
Sub feature headlines – The " Watch out" sub feature headlines are placed here to show what else is going on in the magazine and to interest fans.
