Completed Version; school magazine

 After having asked other students about my front page and contents page and what I should improve on, here is my completed front page and contents page. I have aimed my magazine at all the years in school and gave a variety of subjects for all the years.

Maslow came up with a hierarchy of needs, he made the system into a Pyramid.

Maslow put all the things that we need to survive into Physiological needs; food, water without these basic needs we wouldn't be able to survive and couldn't proceed onto the next layers on the pyramid.

Safety needs is the second layer of the pyramid, we need a safe body and a safe home to make us feel safe in our environment and to make us happy.

The third layer of the pyramid is Belonging. People want to be needed and loved and to know that there is someone who needs you, this helps to make someone happy and is able to have interaction with someone who want to know they need you.

Esteem needs is the fourth layer of the pyramid. Esteem needs helps with our confidence if we have confidence it helps us to achieve the next layer of the pyramid. Belonging and Esteem needs come under psychological needs because without these important we aren't able to reach the final part of the pyramid.

The final layer of the pyramid is self actualisation, this helps us with creativity and helps us reach our potential. Without basic needs and psychological needs which makes a strong base, without the base we aren't able to reach self actualisation.

I used Maslow's Pyramid to make my front cover and to help relate the pyramid to the cover.

My contents page


After making my front page I need to make a contents page, I researched what a contents pages looks like and found all contents pages have page numbers, most have a few pictures to show what is in the magazine. So taking the research I found I created my own contents page.

I used the school logo as a background to show what the logo looks like to parents and student who read the magazine. As a must I put the page numbers on the contents page to show were everything is because it helps the reader identify what page they want to read. I also put pictures on the contents page to give the reader an insight into what might be in the magazine.

Changes to school magazine

I needed to change some parts to the front page of my magazine which I did change. The masthead is now at the top of the cover which will be the first thing the reader will look at. I also changed the name of from "Montsaye" to "School weekly" as I had already had the name Montsaye on the picture of the front page of the cover I still wanted that to be there to show the school however I decided to have another name to make it different to the school name.

Another problem with my first front cover age was the colour of the writing from a distance it was hard to read, I changed the colour from red; which is associated with danger and I didn't want to make  the school look dangerous, so I changed the colour to yellow to make it easier to read. I ask other students to read the front page of the cover from a distance and all agreed that they were able to read the writing.

I needed to make a front cover and contents page for my media coursework, I started to think of what I could have on the front page of the cover and decided to take photos for my front page and contents page.

• Firstly I decided to take photos of things around my school such as the sign outside of the school and the sixth form block to show to the audience what is at our school.
•  Secondly I researched some examples of school magazines to get ideas of what a good school magazine would look like. I found that most school magazines have a big picture as a background such as a student from the school. Another part of the school magazines I researched, is that the magazines have a  masthead that is there to catch your eye, the colours of the writing normally contrast against the background to stand out and most importantly that the reader can read the titles. Most school magazines have smaller pictures on the front page to show an insight into what the magazine might be containing.
• Thirdly I needed to make a contents page to show what will be in the magazine and what pages to find the information about the articles on.

  This was my first attempt of my front page for my magazine, I used all the ideas I had researched for the front page; the big picture, the big masthead, contrasting colours however when I asked other student what they thought of the front page they told me that the masthead needed to be at the top of the page because that will be the first thing the reader will see. Another point they said could be improved was the colours of the writing because from a long distance away it was hard to read and the writing would be the second thing that the reader would see.

 I am going to improve my front page by changing the colour of the writing to be able to read properly and to move my masthead to the top of the page to make it the first thing the reader will see.
